Most popular drink in Egypt?

Here at Gulpon we had been talking Egypt a bit too much in a past few weeks. Exciting times for the Egyptian people, revolution, CNN, Twitter - we follow all that.
The other day we decided to find out what is the most popular alcoholic drink in Egypt? Something that is special for that that part of the world. We searched the net and could not find a distinct Egyptian spirit, we thought all that revolution had to be fueled by some kind of local Sambuka. Being a Muslim country and all - drinking is not such a big deal in Egypt and outside of tourist areas, officially, Egyptians consume 10 times less alcohol  then neighboring Israel for example.
But there's one drink all Egyptians love - it is the Egyptian National Beer named Stella (Star) not to be confused with other Stella, Artois from Belgium. Stella from Egypt, is a 4.5% - 6% beer brewed by local alco-kingpin -  Al Ahram Company. Stella is loved in Egypt, not only because this brand is being around for more then a hundred years, but also because of beers distinct smooth taste and a special star logo that strikes sentimental cords with the Egyptian consumer. Stella is adored locally for their clever marketing and sponsorship of top sporting events. Stella is heavy in Egyptian Nightlife and tourism it publishes a Cairo Nightlife blog for tourists and locals who want to have a good time in Cairo.

Visit Stella Blog for more information about this number one Egyptian beverage!  And we can't wait to taste Stella at our local Egyptian restaurant and to continue writing about other Middle Eastern beers - we think that maybe Saudi Arabian beer is going to be next? :D
