A toast to President's Day!

Happy presidents day all!
Great day to kick back and enjoy your day off - if you are employed by a post office or a bank! Gulpon.com does not give their employees a day off for a Presidents Day but we get a chance to discuss drinking habits of  the Founding Fathers.
We all know (or Sam Adams brand wants us to know) that our presidents liked their beer and enjoyed it as much as any soon to be unemployed teacher, engineer, steel workers or outsourced corporate clerk. But there is very little evidence that beer, a peasant drink of the times, was a number one choice of our presidents..
George Washington  for example drink whiskey! His own Mount Vernon estate contained a distillery. In 1799  he could conveniently produce rye whiskey just a short horseback ride from his mansion. Btw, it reopened for business in 2007 to produce the same whiskey.
And Abe Lincoln was hardly a beer drinker too - born in Kentucky his drink of choice was Bourbon. In fact, Lincoln had his name on an alcohol license - he distributed and retailed at his own Illinois taverns many fine brands of bourbon and whiskey. Later in his life, Lincoln favored Gin, and was linked to success of new gin distilleries originated in Springfield in the 19th century. "It is the duty of every government to give Gin to its citizens, of whatever class, color, or condition, and especially to those who are duly organized as soldiers in the public service." A. Lincoln
